Google Analytics: Why I love what I do

The other day, a close friend of mine asked me to take a shot at some google ads for their business. The basic objective was to grab people searching for discounted gift cards, and show them this really cool way to buy those gift cards and get points to bid on more gift cards. (This is an awesome idea by the way, and  one of those that feels too good to be true, but it’s not! I had a few hunches about how to move the needle using some keywords and a few ad variations, so I set up a couple of tests with google adwords. Stay with me, because here is where the awesome comes in. (For data geeks like me anyway)

I set up my best guess at how to make this work, and hit “go”. Thanks to “Real Time” analytics in google, I was able to spend the next 3 hours watching REAL PEOPLE interact with my ideas.

In under 12 hours, I had been approached about a new campaign, set up a “best guess”, and got a test out to market that real people across the US interacted with. I also got enough feedback to tune the campaign very quickly. As you can see in the screenshot above, we had 7 conversions on less than 50 visits. Woohoo!

So, this is why I love what I do. How many other businesses can get tests to market that fast? Not many.
